Crushed Cinnamon

Cinnamomum Verum

Organic & Conventional

Sample testing of mainland Tanzania has shown the cinnamon variety to be the same as that from Sri Lanka and Madagascar. These tests indicate essential oil content with the absence of coumarin, DNA tests and E-Cinnamaldehyde level in line with Ceylon.

Our small farmer partners hand cut cinnamon stems, wash the stems to remove any dirt or moss that could affect flavour and then either (1) scrape the outer bark from the stem (CZ4), (2) leave the outer bark and slice chunks from the stem (chenga / HNNG), or (3) leave the outer bark and peel the outer bark from the stem (come / yellow label). All product is crushed and metal detected.

The minimum order quantity is 100 kilograms. A twenty foot container holds around 10 metric tons and a 40 foot container around 20 metric tons. Containers are lined with dry bags to absorb moisture and kraft paper.
Standard packaging is food grade polypropylene bags with a Tanzanian Bureau Standards certificate. Environmentally friendly food grade jute or locally sourced sisal options are available for a premium.
